The ATEX, LVD & EMC Directives changed on the 20th April 2016 with immediate effect. For the most part, the changes are driven by the New Legislative Framework and include a move to a common document format, whilst at the same time clarifying the obligations of various parties. The key content that applies to Manufacturers (the scope, safety requirements and conformity assessment procedure) remains the same.
What does this mean for Crowcon?
The changes to our working practices will be:
- New multi-lingual format for our product EU Declaration of Conformities, referencing the new Directive numbers.
- Instructions and Safety Information will be supplied in the relevant official language for each EU Member State where Crowcon sell products.

What does this mean for our customers?
- Any certificates (e.g. EC-type examination certificates) issued under the old Directives will remain valid under the new Directives until their fixed expiration date, even if amended and up-issued during that period. In the case of modification, a new certificate, under directive 2014/34/EU, must be issued. The certificate number may remain unchanged.
- What happens with the products currently stored at the distributors’ and users’? Products must meet the legal obligations when placed on the market for the first time. Those stored at distributors’ or users’ are considered as placed on the market already so the new ATEX directive does not apply.
