The HazardEx International Conference, sponsored by Crowcon, was recently held in Runcorn, UK. As part of our attendance at the event, Crowcon included activities designed to highlight the hazards of normalising risk.
Complacency is known to be a significant factor in many accidents. Our “Wake up and smell the coffee” competition was a light-hearted means to remind delegates of the issue, while giving them the opportunity to win a DeLonghi® Dolce Gusto® Mini Me® coffee machine.
To win, these gas-hazard related questions had to be answered correctly:
Q. Which flammable sensor technology can be inhibited by silicones?
A. catalytic bead
Q. Under ATEX, at what concentration does methane become flammable?
Q "A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas, vapour or mist is present continuously or for long periods or frequently" describes?
A. ATEX Zone 0
Questions were answered on-line. Those who got all answers correct went into a draw. Congratulations to our winners, now the proud owners of a new Dolce Gusto Mini Me, each:
- Sean Morley, Technical Engineer at Factair Ltd
- Neil Price, Regional Manager at MGF Trench Construction
The HazardEx International Conference features presentations from a wide range of senior regulatory and hazardous area industry figures. Keynote speakers this year included Paul Logan, Head of the Chemicals, Explosives and Microbiological Hazards Division at HSE/HID and Ann Rosbrook, Head of Safety Engineering at Total E&P UK.
The 2017 event is scheduled for 2nd and 3rd March 2017, and Crowcon is looking forward to active participation, once again.
