Five-year agreement will equip West Midlands Police with 2,000 single-gas monitors, enhancing operational safety and national resilience.

Crowcon has been awarded a £423,600 contract to supply 2,000 single-gas oxygen (O₂) detectors to West Midlands Police, one of the UK’s largest regional police forces. The five-year agreement, commencing 15 August 2025, will support the force’s chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) teams in maintaining safe working environments during hazardous response operations.

Oxygen detection plays a vital role in protecting emergency personnel from asphyxiation and other atmospheric hazards when responding to high-risk incidents. Crowcon’s single-gas monitors will provide real-time oxygen level monitoring, ensuring responders can quickly assess and manage oxygen depletion caused by chemical releases, combustion, or confined-space operations.

In CBRN environments, timely and reliable gas detection is critical. The new devices will enable West Midlands Police to maintain operational capability and safeguard both officers and the public during emergency deployments. The procurement reinforces the force’s preparedness for both intentional CBRN events and accidental hazardous substance releases, ensuring that specialist teams have access to the latest safety technology.

Although focused on specialist operations, this investment contributes to broader public safety by helping ensure that trained officers can continue their vital work without undue personal risk. Maintaining safe operational conditions supports the continuity of response in the event of major incidents, protecting both responders and the communities they serve.

Crowcon has been designing and manufacturing reliable gas detection solutions for over 50 years. The company’s products are trusted by emergency services and industrial operators around the world to detect hazardous gases and protect lives in challenging environments.

“We’re proud to support West Midlands Police in enhancing their CBRN readiness with advanced oxygen detection technology. This contract reflects the trust placed in Crowcon to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions that help protect those who protect us. Our mission has always been to make working environments safer, and we’re honoured to play a part in strengthening national resilience.”

The contract, awarded on 8 August 2025 under the UK Procurement Act 2023, will run until 14 August 2030.
