Crowcon’s IQ range continues awards run with EIC shortlist

Latest recognition continues a strong run for Crowcon’s new generation of portable gas detection technology.

Crowcon’s IQ range of portable gas detectors has been shortlisted at the EIC World Energy Supply Chain Awards, adding to a growing list of industry recognition for the new generation of gas detection technology.

The shortlist follows Crowcon’s recent inclusion in the EIC Survive & Thrive 2026 report, which featured the development of the IQ range as a case study in innovation and highlighted how Crowcon has revitalised its portable gas detection portfolio through customer-led product development, connectivity and a renewed approach to serviceability and usability.

It is the latest in a string of accolades for the IQ range, which has also been shortlisted for the IOSH Awards Supplier Innovation Award. Earlier this year, DuoIQ was awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design 2026, recognising the design and development behind Crowcon’s latest generation of wearable gas detectors.

The IQ range was created following extensive research with gas detection users around the world, as Crowcon set out to rethink its portable offering rather than make incremental changes to existing technology.

Research identified that, while an individual worker simply needs their detector to operate reliably and keep them safe, organisations managing hundreds or thousands of devices face a much wider challenge. Calibration, servicing, asset visibility, device availability and fleet management can all create significant operational demands.

This insight shaped the development of the IQ range, including modular sensor trays designed to simplify servicing and sensor replacement, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity to improve access to device information, extended battery life and a redesigned approach to bump testing and calibration.

We could continue making incremental improvements to our existing portable range, or properly rethink what portable gas detection needed to look like for our customers in the future. We chose the latter.

“The most important part of that process was understanding the different challenges our customers face. For the person wearing a detector, it needs to be reliable, easy to use and ready when they need it. But for an organisation managing thousands of devices across multiple sites, the challenge is much bigger. They need to know where those devices are, whether they are compliant and ready to use, how quickly they can be serviced and how they can keep people protected without holding large amounts of spare equipment.”

“That made us realise we needed to think beyond the detector as a piece of hardware. The range had to bring together the device, sensors, servicing and connectivity. That thinking led to modular sensor trays that can be swapped quickly, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, improvements to battery life and a complete rethink of the bump and calibration process.

“To see that work now being recognised by Red Dot, IOSH and the EIC is fantastic, but the most important thing is that the innovation has come directly from problems our customers told us they needed us to solve.”

The EIC Survive & Thrive 2026 report also highlights the commercial impact of the programme. The IQ range achieved a 25% return on investment within its first three months, with a further 25% represented in the pipeline at the time of the report. Sales of DetectiveIQ were 59% higher than the equivalent period for its legacy product, contributing to a 5% uplift in portable revenues and helping Crowcon regain market share in key sectors.

The IQ portfolio includes UnoIQ, DuoIQ and DetectiveIQ, alongside IQhub and Crowcon Connect, bringing together personal and area monitoring with connected fleet management capabilities.
